NEW! Presentation on gaining benefit from offshore wind
Henrik Stiesdal, known as the Father of Danish Wind and a leader in renewable energy technologies, made a thought-provoking presentation at the Danish Offshore Technology Conference on 19 November 2024. His key message is that Governments have to drive the energy transition. They need 1) to want it to happen, 2) to set the conditions for the market and for new infrastructure, 3) to promote collaboration between private companies and the public sector. The second point involves building i) generic demand (based on the benefits of independence from oil and gas, affordable energy and new jobs), and ii) specific demand (by providing the right legislation, timely permitting and stable contracts).
NEW! Is climate change being seen on the Isle of Man?
Former Senior Meteorologist for the Isle of Man Government, Adrian Cowin, says that storms have been more extreme this winter due to higher sea temperatures in the North Atlantic, coupled with a stronger polar jet stream and other imbalances. These effects are a direct result of more solar energy being trapped in the atmosphere as the amount of carbon dioxide rises from burning fossils fuels.
