Empowering a green future through training and research

A new world is emerging with focus on two interconnected themes: addressing climate change and rebuilding livelihoods. Sustainable development is critical to the well-being of people and nature, and the most significant choices involve energy.

With the Isle of Man committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2050, the Energy & Sustainability Centre (ESC) promotes education and collaboration between industry, government, academia and society as a whole.  Our mission is to progress a sustainable economy and a fair energy transition for islands and small nations.

Why the Isle of Man

The Manx Government has committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and is the only nation with the status of UNESCO Biosphere Reserve – a ‘learning place for sustainable development’. With a population of 85,000 people currently relying on oil and gas for power, heating and transport, within 30 years the Island will move from emitting around 700,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum to none.  Significant benefits will come by learning from one another in the educational environment of ESC.

The Energy & Sustainability Centre Isle of Man (ESC) promotes a realistic & fair energy transition through research, training & advice.
